Ventura County Red Devils (VCRD) was founded in 2005 by 1996 Olympian Ben Maruquin with a bold vision: to build a premier high-performance boys field hockey program. Based in Moorpark, California—a city with a rich tradition in field hockey—VCRD quickly rose to national prominence, developing some of the most accomplished players in U.S. Men’s Field Hockey history from 2005 to 2014.
In 2016, former U.S. Men’s National Team captain Shawn Nakamura (1997–2012) took over the program and began a new chapter by integrating a girls program. Over the next five years, VCRD expanded its impact, producing elite men’s players and top-tier Division 1 female athletes.
In 2021, leadership was passed to Paul Singh, a former USMNT player and original VCRD athlete (2005–2011). With deep roots in the club and the local community, Paul continues to grow VCRD—building on its legacy and contributing to the proud history of the Moorpark field hockey community.
