10 years after the creation of the VCRD program, Ben Maruquin retires from coaching and directing the program. The 1996 Olympian created the program back in 2005 with the intent of improving the hockey level in the United States and to give back to the league that he grew up playing in.
Starting out as a program to compete in the Men’s National Championship in 2005, Maruquin created the VCRD program to train and select the team. The program grew to include boys and in 2013 the VCRD girls program was introduced.
The VCRD program has won numerous National Championships in the Junior and Senior levels and has taken the team to both domestic and international competitions. Virtually every National and Junior National Team member from the Ventura County area has been a part of the VCRD program. Maruquin has served as both a player and a coach for the USA National Men’s Senior and Junior Programs and has been a mainstay in the program for over a decade.
Thank you for all of your years of service to the sport. You will certainly be missed.
