The Wanderers Australia brought three hockey teams to SoCal for their final stop on a fourteen day tour across North America in December. Members of the VCRD community graciously opened their homes to the young players for a weekend of friendly hockey competition and sightseeing. Both VCRD girls’ teams took Ws Saturday and Sunday, and the boys earned a 3-2 win on Sunday after a 2-2 draw on Saturday. Off the pitch, the Aussies experienced a typical American Saturday night with their hosts, or “billots”. There was a highly anticipated trip to Walmart to stock up on American candy, and others went to Six Flags or the beaches in Malibu. Several girls ventured to Santa Monica for shopping and sightseeing, and ended the night with a potluck dinner. Others spent the night watching the parade of lights from a boat in the Ventura Harbor. Overall, it was a great experience for both the Wanderers and VCRD communities.
